This week's topic for Illustration Friday is "chair".
Here is my illo for Illustration Friday: Bloom!
This is one of my characters, her name is Mimi.
Illustration Friday's Theme: ADOPTION.
My Security.
This illustration is very meaningful to me, it represents a turning point in my art and my life after many years of trying to fit my art in many different types of "molds". I'm sure you know what I mean...
After I got out of college I started experimenting with lots of illustration styles and putting my work out there in the marketplace, but somehow I was never satisfied nor I felt strongly (or passionately) toward my art. I was feeling really frustrated and sad because I felt lost without a sense of direction in my art (like I have compromised). I knew my art was lacking spirit, direction and passion. It was totally boring to me!
I purposely stopped drawing for a while and decided to spend time meditating and praying for a sense of direction and purpose. Slowly I started sketching what I felt (without worrying if it would sell or not, or if other people may like it or not, etc..) I just sketched for months filling many sketchbooks...until one afternoon I grabbed my pencils and markers and created the illo above (a fresh new style for me!). I fell in love with it so much that I cried! My time arrived and I felt finally free! For days I stared at it like I couldn't believe I really did it, totally surprised at myself! (didn't care about perfectionism nor worrying about been too cute)...I'm was so happy!
This illustration represents a new chapter in my life, a new sense of direction. Now I just create what comes from my heart and I share it as is, hoping someone out there will be touched and their day will be brighter. Each illustration I create has a story behind it that's why they mean so much to me.
I encourage you to give yourself the opportunity to discover yourself through your art (whatever it is).
ps: Confession: I finally can say...cute & glitter are my things and I'm proud of it! LOL
This is my Friday Illo, which the theme is Bubbles!
When I was very little I used to spend some days at my grandma's house in the mountains. Her home was next to a river surrounded with bamboo trees....so my uncle used to make bamboo "straws" for me and my cousins (and we use grandma's Palmolive soap!!)
Here is another little illo from my sketchbook.
Have a relaxing and fun weekend!
I love Penelope's Friday Illustration. Today's theme is Vintage. The words "Infancia" mean childhood. This illo represents my childhood in the 70's and my "cat" eyeglasses with little rhinestones! I remember hating those glasses and wishing for contacts badly (especially because I'm legally blind and everyone at school called me "four-eyes") I always remember my 12th birthday when I finally said goodbye to my "ugly" glasses and my parents got me contacts! (I hope my Mom is keeping those little eye glasses somewhere in a box...) Those eye glasses means a lot to me now.

This is a little sketch I did a while ago which reminds me about Penelope Friday Illos Theme: Snazzy!
